RECENT NEWS FROM THE CVRS
The 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Canadian Vintage Radio Society (CVRS) was held online via Zoom on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Several CVRS Members in good standing attended the AGM and Minutes of the meeting can be viewed by Members here.
The April 2023 edition of the CVRS newsletter "Canadian Vintage Radios" is now available to CVRS members. After signing into the website, you can click on this link to the CURRENT ISSUE where you can download it.
An author of radio history books, Ian Sanders (see Castle Ridge Press and book reviews in back copies of Canadian Vintage Radios), is currently researching for a book on ‘Burndept of Canada’, and has asked the CVRS if any of their members may be able to provide him with some information (anecdotal or documents), photos, or if they even own one (or more) of their products.
There is little readily available information on ‘Burndept of Canada’ other than what is on the Radiomuseum.org site and in Lloyd Swackhammer’s book, which is negligible. Burndept was also a company in the UK, which started in the 1922 (on which there is more information available) – Ian understands that ‘Burndept of Canada’ was set up as a subsidiary of the UK company as early as 1922, but he is still researching that connection.
If you are able to provide any information or help Ian in any way with his research, it would be very-much appreciated! (you may even get a mention in his book!).

The CVRS Executive Board of Directors has decided to cease providing the option of members receiving ‘Canadian Vintage Radios’ (Newsletter) in printed format, and no new printed format subscriptions will be available with immediate effect. However, all existing printed copy subscriptions will be honoured, with printed copies being mailed to print copy members until their next subscription renewal date, and such members have been contacted regarding this.
The reasons for this decision are many, including the dwindling number of such subscriptions, and issues with printing, copying and mailing the printed format copies. We realize that this may be an inconvenience to such members, however, we hope that all recipients of the printed format Newsletter will consider renewing their membership to receive the (full colour, cheaper and environmentally friendlier!) ‘pdf’ format Newsletter when the time comes.
One of the premium benefits of CVRS membership is receiving five copies of the 20-page ‘Canadian Vintage Radios’. This publication is recognized throughout the vintage radio community worldwide as a constant source of interesting and varied articles covering technical, restoration, historical and human interest articles associated with vintage radio and electronics.
