    WIREWOUND POT FIX
    Dan
I was viewing your posts on antiqueradios.com. I am not a member there, so I will post this suggestion here on CVRS.

I was just about to hang up my skates for the night. When viewing the pics of the damaged Wirewound Pot, I remembered a fix another chap executed on a wirewound pot. As most of the winding on your original Pot is still seemingly in good condition try the following. Nothing to lose!

Cut away that portion of the winding that is damaged, and remove all the burnt area, but only the burnt area. Then scrape clean both ends of remaining winding, Unwind a couple of turns of the smaller part of the original winding and solder the two cut ends together. Making certain that the wiper, when rotated will not bind on the soldered area when operated. Also, using Dioxit clean the complete wiper surface of the remaining winding, and the sliding surface of the wiper itself in case it too is tarnished or burnt. Also prior to soldering, check for continuity to both winding posts on either side of the cut out area. If you take care in doing this I see no reason for this not to work. You may as well read the Ohmage of the newly repaired Winding. It should be fairly close to that of the original winding minus 10 or 15 percent, and still be within tolerance.

Ralph I might give that a try AFTER I GET THE RADIO WORKING.
Right now, I have some problems with the voltages on the 6F6 tubes , and I am going to replace the cadohm resistors. It is at the bottom of the photo
There are five of them, so it will take a while as I need to get some terminal strips.

I do have a new 100 ohm control, but I must get thing in order first

Well with the help of Peter Heembrock, I made a lot of head a way [at least peter did.] Peter is a member of this forum .
and he suggested I connect an 80 ohm 5 watt resistor between the negative of the main caps to the chassis ground.
That worked very well and the MP3 played works. After I found that the voltages on the plates of the 6F6 tubes came up to where it should be.
I took out the resistor and using Ralph’s suggestion I installed the sensitivity switch. The voltages there are about -7 volts [good].
Now I can hear the slight CLICK when I change the band switch. The turning of the volume control also makes a noise in the speaker.

I don’t get any station yet, but some headway has been made.

Ths is my second post here tonight, the first one dissappeared, Gone! ???
If as you say, the MP3 is working that would mean that the output tube/s is/are, in the Audio section, and everything else in the Audio Output Section is working OK, along with the reproducer/speaker setup. It seems to me that your problem has to be in the RF or IF sections, Do you have a signal tracer to help find where the breakdown is??? It has to be somewhere in the Signal Track. What about he up front vacum tubes, . Have you tried changing them out??? And how are the Grid and Cathode voltages on those up front tubes?? Because you get no sound/voice on any of the bands I would put the Radio on the AM Band, and consentrate on it only. By leaving the other bands switched off, that will help nail down, more quickly, where the problem is located. Check all your coils for continuity, especially your Antenna Coil, Broadcast Coil, and IF Coils. ( they too could be open) Also how are the Grid Bias Voltages and the Cathode Voltages on those, up font tubes. Just trying to prod your mind in case you are overlooking something,

Later today I am going to get back to this radio and see what I can come up with . I did change tubes and rechecked them.
I guess the next thing is the coils.
But I am making some headway.
While the Deforest 83 was on the shelf, I recapped a table model of the Christmas Story radio. [Westinghouse model 780A]
It turned out very good as far as sound is concerned. I will get to the cabinet in the spring. It will not be a problem.
Here is a photo from the internet. Mine is like the top left one in the photo
