I would like to see one t of the choices on the forum to be ”view my posts” .. Have a look at Antique Radio Forum.
At the moment ,it is very hard to nagvigate around the forum so I believe that is the reason it has not been used for quite a while.

I agree with Dan. In it’s current state this web site is not very user friendly. Nice to look at, but not easy to use.

Hi Dan and Paul. Are you referring to the forum or the website? (or both). What changes would you like to see to make the forum/site more user-friendly?

can you guys try to click on your name beside your post and see if that gives you what you are looking for? it seems to show a history of your activity if you do that.

I created the forum using PHPbb, unfortunately I am not really a website guru. One thing I liked about PHPbb was that people know how to navigate it because it is common in many other forums. The downside was that we constantly had a problem with spam machines trying to sign in to infiltrate the posts and I spent many hours sifting through the sign in data to try to separate real people signing in from machines doing the same. for every one sign in there were about 10 from machines.
It took an immense amount of work to try to get the frequency of posts up and I can only thank the users for making the website and forum active and valid. Without active members the forum is just empty software. The demise of many forums is that things fall flat and the more people post and the more activity there is, the more attractive the forum is to all users. If you are lurking and not posting , try to make a few posts and see how it goes and ask questions here if you have difficulty.

Now that I have been distanced from the technical process and we have some more web-savy people involved, the website looks much better. The forum’s functionality is improving and I know that switching back to PHPbb or something similar like vBulletin would be time consuming and we don’t want too many big changes ,we loose members with the switch-over and to keep the post count up can be difficult for the webmaster as that person has little control of it.

I think we could perhaps look at how many places we have to post, and take into consideration the frequency of use for particular sections of the forum. We may find that people might have an easier time with less places to post as they could then perhaps feel that they are getting all the posts in one or two places. This forum has subforums and it also has features to help see things like the most recent posts so perhaps that is a moot point?

How can we increase the post count? What can the web developers do to help?

You can easily view all your posts once you have signed into the website. Click on My Account at the top of the page just above the menu bar, and it should take you to your Activity page. If not, click on the Activity tab. You will notice that a menu box is available on the right hand side of the screen with the default setting of Show Everything. So all your posts, etc., show up on the page. If you want you can change what you want your activity page to show.

We have created a new sub-Forum, Forum Suggestions, for suggestions and discussion about possible forum changes. Please post any further discussion on this topic there. That will help everyone keep the topics straight. Thanks!

Would it be possible to create a new topic to click on in your home page list of subjects, right after “Forums,” entitled “Sub-Forums,” and then list all the sub-forums for access?
I know nothing about programming, but it seems to me that this would make it much easier to find what one is looking for — especially for newbies.
By the way, CVRS has a really first class newsletter. I follow a lot of electronics forums on the net, and there is nothing to match it.
The people who are responsible for this obviously put in a LOT of time and effort and truly deserve our thanks.

    Eric:

I’m not sure if I understand what you are proposing. Do you mean accessing this from your account page or from the menu bar at the top of every page (and in the footer)? Right now, if you are in your account page and click forums, it gives you a list of the topics *you* started, replies you’ve posted, etc. If you go to the menu bar and click on Forums, you can either get a list of the upper level, main forums, with their highest sub-forums, or a list of all topics. Is this where you are suggesting you would like to see something like a forum-sub-forum tree/directory?

    Don,
Thanks for your help with the lingo. I was referring to the menu bar at the top of the page. I thought a forum/sub-forum tree/directory might be helpful.
But if this is just duplicative, then I’m not accessing something right.

No, I think you have it correctly. The “forum list” provides a list of the main forums, their sub forums, and, in brackets, the number of topics each sub forum contains (but not their names). I also did a bit of experimenting and found that if I create another sub-forum one level further down, it doesn’t show up at the upper level. This may be a function of the WordPress Forum module, but I agree with you that a proper tree structure would be much more preferable.

I’ll do some checking and get back to you on this. Thanks for pointing it out!

are others able to use the private message feature? I find I get messages once in a while but and if I click on messages it lists the messages I have received and I can read the first few words but I don’t’ seem to be able to read the actual message. If I click on the title of the message it takes me to some unrelated post. I can’t figure out how to read them or maybe it’s just broken.
