In 2013 I bought an Airline 62-197 ”LaFrance” that had been stored in a 3-sided shed for a couple decades at least. The cabinet was DESTROYED but the chassis were fine. I actually checked every single coil, transformer winding and speakers – they all ohm out fine. So I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE for a cabinet since then.
Just a couple days ago I saw one advertised in Edmonton. The chassis are incomplete (although the chrome looks decent) and the speakers and tubes are missing. This seems like an unique opportunity for me to get my hands on a nice cabinet+parts donor.
I asked around and found a friend of a friend who might be able to pick it up but that didn’t work out. Now the person who has the radio is saying he will be hauling it to the dump tonight if it is not claimed. I just think this would be an absolute SHAME given how rare this high-end radio is. Think about it – 16 tubes, twin chrome chassis, 4-gang tuner, twin 12” speakers, four parallel push-pull 2A3s etc. This is one killer of a radio.
I’m asking if someone on this forum would be able to pick it up today. I will reimburse all costs of gas, crating and shipping for this rare cabinet, I’m desperate for it.
Here is a picture, email me at if you are able to do that for me.
Radio is located in Edmonton T6K 1V4
Is there a shipping company that will pick up and package and ship
