Hi, I have inherited an older multi band Phillips radio. It has a very loud hum in all bands and frequency’s and I am thinking that the first place to start would be to test all the tubes. I have already tried contact cleaner on all the potentiometers etc. Any help is appreciated. Peter Engel.
Hi Peter, if your receiving stations but there is also hum, I’d start by replacing all the paper/wax capacitors and the electrolytic capacitors, then checking the resistors. The tubes can be surprisingly robust.
