Strange rectifier tube in Stewart-Warner

Came across a Stewart-Warner yesterday model R-404, RCC sheet #46.
It has a rectifier tube that has the number IV on it.
Never come across one of these before.
Someone, please tell me about this unusual tube.

The RCA tube manual RC11 lists an RCA 1V at 4 pins and a 6.3 volt heater on page 53.
