I have one of these radios in my office ,so I thought this one would be easy to get going.
I picked this one up at an estate sale.and after looking at the chassis I found a couple of extra switches on the rear of the chassis.
One was to turn on the power as the on/off switch did not work. Another was to turn on a red indicator light which had been installed on the front..
There was also a three pronged female jack connected to the wires going to the field coil???????.
I took everything out that was added and proceeded to recap the radio, and put in a good used 6U5 eye tube.
I sprayed the on/off switch several times and finally got it to work,so I didn’t have to change the tone control ,
After a day the switch didn’t work all the time so I sprayed it again and worked it for about five minutes.
    Now it works
The cabinet was in pretty good condition so I just cleaned it and applied some Trade Secret.
It looks a lot better now

You should share where you get that “Trade Secret”. Haven’t seen it on the shelf at Home Depot :^)

I got the Trade secret at home depot but that was quire a while ago. I use to get it at Walmart ,but they don’t have it any more..
I guess we will have to just check around at places like Lowe’s etc

I honestly thought you were keeping a personal recipe to yourself and then I happened to Google “Trade Secret Wood Finish” and there it was. I’ve never heard of it but will give it a try. Thanks.

Let me say that I use it if the cabinet has scratches and does not need to be refinished.

It will cover the scratches quite good.
I am glad you found it.. What I usually do is clean the cabinet with gojo [or what ever you use to get it clean].
I personally wipe it down after the cleaning ,,with a damp rag and make sure the cabinet is DRY.
Wear rubber gloves and DON’T get any on the grill cloth. IT WON’T COME OFF.
I then use a small clean rag and go over the whole cabinet with the Trade Secret.

You can let it sit as long as you like , but I have found that if I leave it on longer it seems to
do a better job. [It is very similar to ”old English”], but I like it better.
Sometimes I leave it on overnight and I use a buffer on a drill [on upright cabinets] the next day.

You can buff it after it is dry with a soft cloth.
I was quite surprised the first time I used it.
    I hope this information helps.

Here is a cabinet I did with Trade Secret.
