    Hi all,

I’m attempting to repair a May 1931 Model 90 Philco Baby Grand Cathedral, the early model with two Type 45s for output. I’ve got some background in electronics that I gleaned from my father, who was an electronics technician, and old timer Ham Radio Operator. I inherited his testing equipment and about 200-300 radio/TV tubes from the 60s & 70s. I’ve got a signal generator, signal tracer, dual trace oscilloscope, tube tester (though not for vintage tubes of the 30s), isolation transformer/variac, current limiter, and assorted DVMs. This Philco was previously worked on, re-capped and had the speaker replaced. I’ve got the schematic and Rider’s service notes and am diving into the tracing of the signal, checking voltages, etc. I am hoping to find someone in my area (White Rock, BC) who could help out by answering basic questions, suggesting things to check, maybe has a vintage tube tester I could make use of…Anyone willing to take on a newbie? Thanks!

    Hi Rick,

Are you looking for help on-line, eg. via this forum, or face to face? I will contact one or two folks more local to you than I am (I am based in Coquitlam) to see if they could help. Another option would be to visit the SPARC vintage radio museum (in Coquitlam) and get to know a few folks there – its open on Sundays 10am to 4pm.

    Hi Gerry,

Face to face would be best I think. Thanks for your offer! I’m definitely going to visit the SPARC museum as soon as I can.

    Thanks again,

    Rick
