I picked up a Mohawk radio at a local auction late last fall, a summer project now. The set spent some time in Camrose Alberta in its past, tubes have repair shop labels on them. Solid cabinet; in need of refinishing (will be asking for tips at a later date 🙂 Wires to speaker have been cut, tube missing, haven’t got the chassis out yet but pleased with the purchase $40.00
Started cleaning up the cabinet, the center section of the cabinet came out in two pieces which will make cleaning a lot easier.
Someone had applied a dark tone to the cabinet in the past and covered up some damaged areas but almost hid the inlaid pattern around the center section of the cabinet. I cleaned it up some to reveal the pattern , as you can see there is some damage to the veneer but I should be able to fix it.
Hi Keith. Any luck with restoration?
Show us some inside pictures of your radio. Must be interesting. 🙂
Nothing to show yet, started the cabinet but got busy with work. Winter project now and looking forward to getting back at it.
Keith ,,,I have one of those radios, but the cabinet is a little different..It looks like yours is fancier around the dial.. Mine is an S-7 [ I believe]
I picked mine up at an antique show for $80.00 and I had to redo the whole cabinet.. I also recapped the radio and now it plays very well. I did not find it hard to work on at all. There was lots of room inside
I am posting a couple of photos of mine..
