Forum ParticipantHi,
I’m hunting for schematics to confirm the capacitor typed/values for one my parent’s wedding present which is a c1950 Electrohome Chippendale(?) hifi. The power supply in the unit has p/n PCC82-418Z.The hifi has a 60hz hum, so I suspect that the filter capacitors in the power supply need replacing. But I am open to other possible problems.
I’ve been unsuccessful finding anything on-line to this point.
Attached are photos for reference.
Thanks
Jack

CVRS MemberEverything you would need should be here at Radiomuseum. I’m a member, but non members can still down load info, schematics, but your limited to how many at once.
Here’s the link, Good luck!…https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/electrohom_chippendale_iii.html

Forum ParticipantThanks Gary.
I had looked at that site earlier, I’m hoping that the Chippendale and Westmount models use the same power supply. The picture of Chippendale model doesn’t have doors on the front like ours does, maybe ours is a Westmount. Photo attached.

CVRS MemberI think there are often radios with different cabinets that use the same chassis. Don’t get too hung up on the picture. click on the schematic and print it out, then do a tube comparison, That should tell you if your chassis and the schematic match. Good luck!

Forum ParticipantSo, what a hunt this has become!
I checked all the Chippendale and Westmount schematics with no success. I finally decided to have a look at other models, and found the schematic under an Electrohome Balmoral 45FM, Chippendale FM, Kingsway 45FM & Westmount FM Power Supply, Amplifier & Alignment Instructions on Pacific tv.
Our radio is only BC (AM) and SW, so looking at files with “FM” in the title wasn’t obvious.
Attached is a copy of the PDF.

Forum ParticipantSo, it looks to me that the power supply electrolytic capacitors are inside the metal canister. See photos. Can someone please confirm this for me? I’m remotely instructing my brother on how to proceed (he lives in Manitoba, and I live in Ontario,)

CVRS MemberThat is correct. They are combined in 1 can. If your plan is to keep it visually correct, your brother would have to disconnect the indicated leads underneath and solder in 3 replacements Electrolytic caps, making sure the common negative is attached to where the neg wire indicated on the can is located. Or, it time isn’t an issue, you could order another 40 40 20 can like yours and solder it in. I don’t like waiting and none of the radios are worth much, so I just put new caps underneath like the pics below. You can see where I cut the wires off at the can (behind Vol switch) in pic 1, top view Pic2 also a 40 40 20 can like yours. Last pic, I like this cleaner for the switches and pots, but everybody had a fav I’m sure. Good luck to your brother.
