Hi all,
I spotted this 1946 RCA model 80 on facebook and had to have it. I did not research the radio much before going to pick it up and when I arrived, I was amazed how big it was. I guess I was expecting the size to be more along the lines of a philco table radio or something. Wood is in decent shape and all the knobs are present and the grille cloth looks good. The radio is completely untouched with all the original tubes and it still works.
I only ran it for a couple of minutes to check it out and it plays on all bands. What can you buy today that still works 73 years later!!!!!
Gary
Nice radio and chassis looks clean. Hope it was a good deal.
I was happy with the deal. They’re not worth much and I didn’t pay much, but I took it because it was a survivor and complete. lately, I have been looking for early FM wood /Bakelite radios and want to move my collection in that direction and this fit the bill. Kinda plain looking, but it has a bowed front which is sorta cool. Chassis is shiny and spotless with no trace of corrosion. Just got my alignment tools so next rainy day, I will try my hand at aligning a Philco AA5 for starters.
Gary
Good for you. These alignment tools are excellent, sure beats a screw driver covered with heat shrink. I have a couple of AM/FM tube radio but never seen many for sale.
