I have my parents’ Rogers Majestic R109 portable radio () that dates from 1948. Unfortunately the flip-up front cover/antenna is missing. I remember the radio working off AC … not sure about how clear my memory is about battery operation. I suspect the lid/antenna broke off during a fall … it’s a pity it was not kept with the main unit pending repair, etc.

Question: Is the chance of finding a replacement part too remote to be likely? Am I better off to offer the unit for sale … as is … for parts?

    Thanks,

Hi guys – I have three of these little beauties that I expect to finish restoring this winter. Problem with all of them is that the springs on the lids are broken. Any ideas how I might repair these little springs?

(p.s. In my second “Newbie Chronicles” article in the Newsletter I showed a picture of how I modified the selenium rectifier in one unit. I won’t do that again – it’s easier to just disconnect it when adding a silicon diode! And because the chassis is so crowded, I ended up restufffing the filter caps for AC operation. Wish there was an easier way. g)
