HI GUYS ……. I got the reason why my 3 shipments of radio tubes were stopped at GLOBAL SHIPPING……… they have classified radio tubes of having MERCURY in them
Getters never used MERCURY ever…….. they are under the impression radio tubes have and classified them as mercury vapour lamps

    In my research http://www.thevalvepage.com/valvetek/getter/getter.htm

This if it stands ….. NO TUBES PRIOR TO 1970 WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR RESTORATION OF OLD RADIOS FROM E-BAY

I have run into the same issue and the only way around it is to ask the seller to send in the mail. The post office has no problem with radio tubes at this point..

UNFORTUNATELY E-BAY has forced MOST of their sellers to use the GLOBAL SHIPPING PITNEY BOWES …. We will not get a fair shake on any auction if e-bay has it’s way….I was chatting to a collector in europe , he also had his three shipments RESTRICTED……It is not fair….. to class domestic radio tubes pre 70 s to have mercury in them….. it is insane……..Yes I agree that you could find other sellers out there but you would be paying more for them…….. THAT IS WHY WE SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND STRAIGHTEN THIS MISSGUIDED INFORMATION …… Another thing , all pre 70s electronics had tubes in them….. radios , record players, guitar amps, ham radios …. etc all will be restricted ……

So far every ebay seller I informed of this silly restriction by the Global Shipping program has been more than willing to ship in the mail. I have tried calling the Global Shipping program and so far have only been able to speak with someone at a call centre someplace NOT in North America and they did not even understand what I was talking about. Its funny how a fluorescent light is OK but not a radio tube.

You ran into the same person as I did……They just do not understand what this is doing to our collecting days………..
I am getting so tired of trying to get everyone together and do something about this…….. soon it will grow to the postal service and other carriers and then it will be too late to do anything……..no more boarder shopping for parts or radios …. back and forth … the start of the end of radio restoration and collecting…..

I contacted our Canada Border and Restriction services and they are telling me that radio tubes are not RESTRICTED from Canada . e-bay pitney bowes are restricting them . They gave me false information and have been shaddy with their export items . Selling confiscated items at low prices to insiders and they are relisting them at higher prices .

I AVOID PITNEY BOWES AT ALL COST!!!
Here is a very good example!!
I received a 1933 Volksempfanger and a 1936 Philco 444 NOT USING the Global Shipscam Program and guess what people?? Absolutely no @#*%*& “Import charges” NONE!
I have since ordered in a complete Service Manual covering most of the common Volksempfanger models albeit a bit hard to read without a translator but at least I have it! Since then I have ordered replacement valves AKA tubes for both including that horrible Mazda PEN DD61 that is total unubtainium that only this Philco 444 used in the entire world. Also I drive a 1950 Mercury Sport Sedan and a 1956 Continental Mark II and pretty much all of my parts come from the United States and here we go again! This stupid Global Shipscam Program is commonly used by sellers who simply don’t know any better in many cases. I have ordered parts from the States for over 35 years and seldom pay “Import Charges” on many items valued under $50 including used parts plain and simple! Also be warned that they (Pitney Bowes Rogues and Vagabonds and probably Carpetbaggers) also repackage items as I have found out. They place a sticker on the package indicating this and usually it is to repackage into a smaller package to reduce shipping costs placing delicate items in danger and no they do not refund shipping savings. Now if there is damage due to this even though they say the buyer and seller are protected, this is total nonsense and if there is damage they tell the seller “contact the purchaser” and then they tell the purchaser “contact the seller” and nothing in the form of compensation occurs. Oh yes they also snoop through your package to see if there is any so called “contraband” as other members of this forum have discovered. Oh and if you really want an education read the ePay forum which consists of buyers and sellers and read the complaints. I have personally demanded a transaction to be canceled because the so called indicated “Import scam charges” mysteriously doubled when I selected “commit to purchase” or should I say “commit to be screwed” and yes after talking with customer service demanding a cancellation the customer service puppets admit their are many complaints against the GSP! After I canceled the seller sold the item to me not using this method after I showed him what was going on. Most of the time I ask if this is my only option if I’m desperate and if I’m not I just move on looking for another seller who doesn’t use this nonsense. After I make a purchase I contact the seller after receiving his or her email address VIA the PayPal transaction and bypass ePay all together or there have been requests from the sellers as well. Buyer beware.

Yes your right, a lot of the sellers are forced to use the Global Shipping service because they think it is easy for us buyers. They just don’t know any better. I avoid these sellers with my experience and move on. The Global Shipping is a rip off , there are no import charges for items less than approx $100.00 comming into Canada. There are no problems using the USPS at all. Repackaging of items happens most of the time with this GS service. I now avoid all the sellers that use this service at all costs…..and another thing , the item goes all over the USA then from Kentucky gets shipped to Canada after they inspect the box , why ?…There is no need , it is faster to send direct using the USPS.

Probably so they can figure out how to rip the buyer and seller off. Think of how many packages get intercepted by these con artists! When I get my email to the seller or vise versa it is amazing how much less ANY shipping costs are. You think this is asinine? Go over to eBay.de and see what total stupidity the sellers go through there! Here is a good example, lets say you have a Volksempfanger VE301 DYN or Kleinempanger DKE38 with intact Third Reich emblems AKA Swastika or the Eagle perched above the Swastika. You know? a government that hasn’t existed in 73 years and is long gone except for those that fled to South America. Now if you present your DYN or DKE for sale with these “streng verboten” emblems pictured you get your item pulled! Now you see sellers with the emblems including ALL of the Reich ink stamps on all of the components blocked out for fear the SS or the Brown Shirts will come and take them away and if you are lucky you will end up at the Russian Front! The value of these Fangers goes up if this is intact and surprisingly enough they even fetch high dollars even in the United States and I have seen good examples sell for $450-$650 US$ Even In Germany they are still collected despite their dark and controversial history. At the end of the day it is simply amazing how many sellers are not aware of the garbage they are enabling when they select GSP. Oh and what many have found out is the eBay Nazis have message scanners to detect if buyer and seller are exchanging email addresses as they home in on the @ symbol. Simple solution, take a picture of your email address and send a picture in your message LMAO!. Kijiji.de is quite amazing on what you can find and this is just a start.
