    As I was working my way through the restoration of my Hallicrafters model S-85 it occurred to me that the I.F. cans will most likely be suffering from silver mica disease…I am not at the point yet where I can power this radio up and test it out but I am wondering if anyone knows the values of the primary and secondary capacitor values in these I.F. cans? I have read elsewhere on the web that they can be anywhere from 100 to 330pf…

    Peter;
    There is an article here about SMD on another Hallicrafters. In order to do a good repair, it seems that the IF Cans need to be dis-assembled and all traces of the silver mica caps removed.

    Thanks John…I was hoping to avoid this but it looks like I will be pulling the I.F. cans out and removing the silver mica capacitor bits and pieces…This set was not used much so I may be lucky and there may not be much silver migration, however I do want to use it going forward so I may as well bite the bullet on this one.
