In this issue is a very good article written by Bill West on a brand name radio that nobody has heard of. The moment I saw a photo of the radio I thought it was an Echophone, similar to one I tried to purchase recently. A quick look through Radio Museum and I found what appears to be the exact radio, an Echophone S 5. https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/echophone_s5.html . The escutcheon on Bill’s radio is not the same but there appears to be nail holes where the correct one belongs. Same chassis and tube line-up. The S 5 was manufactured in the US but it’s not uncommon to see an American radio rebranded and maybe assembled in Canada. These are beautiful radios and a perfect example of what a “Cathedral” should look like. What a great find and nice restoration. Well done Bill.
