Coronado by MacLeods

I’ve managed to get this radio working, but haven’t tackled any refinishing of the cabinet yet. I’m curious if anyone knows any more about this. From what I’ve found (and remember) Coronado was a broad line of products offered by MacLeods. I can’t locate a specific model number as the cabinet back is quite rough. The back does show that this was manufactured by Electrical Products Mfg. Co. – later called Fleetwood Corporation – in Montreal. There is a paper label on the bottom with a decent schematic.

I have no idea if it will help, but I notice that the heater string part of the schematic shows 5 miniature tubes but the radio actually has 2 octals which also seem to be what is shown in the rest of the schematic.

BTW , there was series of Coronado radios made in the States and yours is similar in appearance to a model 43-8360 with regards to button and dial placement. ( different cabinet)

Ive seen a lot of fleetwood consoles locally, maybe it was eaton’s brand? mostly I saw a lot of consoles that weren’t particularily exciting and made in about the 70’s before the Japanese makers took over the market with cheap and reliable transistor sets. some of these sets are rebranded for department stores.

the white stuff on the knobs. I see it on certain types of knobs in my collection and not others. I’m pretty sure it is some sort of mold that only forms on certain plastics, or maybe it’s something the plastic excretes. it’s always on sort of soft plastic not on Bakelite, anyway I’d just scrub them gently with a toothbrush and maybe some baking soda it should come off with some elbow grease.

Back in the day,the Coronado name was used in the states on sets sold by Gamble-Skogmo stores.The sets were most likely manufactured by Wells-Gardner or Belmont Radio.

Coronado was the house name for MacLeod’s radio, they were made by Electrical products and also by Shelbern of Montreal. Look at the pictures.
