This is one of four Atwater Kent radios I picked up in 2014. The first one I am restoring is a model 30 ( early ) even though the wooden cabinet tag indicates this as being a model 48. The primary drive winding in the second RF stage had to be rebuilt ( it was shorted ) and the AF transformer in the second ( final ) output stage was replaced with an RC coupling network. I used my resonant loop antenna inside the house with excellent results. The audio level is very good on an old RCA high impedance speaker. Typical of these sets is the degradation of selectivity as one tunes above 1000KHz since the RF bandwidth increases. The rheostats for the RF and Detector filaments required cleaning and new connecting wires installed for proper operation.

Next steps for this model are to have the cabinet refinished and some final wiring clean up etc…then on to the next three models ( 33, 49 and 36 ).
