I picked this one up on KIJIJI. After a recap and replacing a few wires and bulbs it sounds pretty good. I had to remove the old lacquer on the top ,bottom and around the top.
Some of the paint had come off the back of the mirror dial and I used some glass paint I got at Michaels.
On the sides of the cabinet I just used go jo and trade secret. I also repainted the gold stripes on the horizontal board in front of the grill cloth. I am waiting for the plastic dial cover from mark Palmquist, and knobs.
It turned out OK.
Dan, that looks fantastic. The tuning dial on that radio is a thing of beauty. Great job!
By the look of the photos, the tuning eye tube seems to be pretty bright. On my 1937 RCA, the tuning eye works but is very dim, to the point that you really need the lights off to really see it. Are they supposed to be quite bright?
Thanks for the compliments. Yes those tuning eyes are supposed to be bright. many times you can buy them on ebay and the seller
says they test good and that may be true but after time the phosphorus is not bright. The tube still works as it should but the brightness is gone.
The cost of these tubes has gone up in recent years and if you can get a NOS tube you will probably find that it is much brighter. Dan
