I am working on a 6 volt/Vibrator Farm Radio that has 2 resistors that are on the chassis but not on the any of the schematics I have viewed.
One resistor is installed in the 100 Volt B+ path just to the left of the pin 4 (S) lead of the 2cd 1N5-G tube. The one that is on chassis is 350 ohm 2 watt.
The other resistor in question on the end of the 1 volt tube filament string is a Wire wound resistor measuring at 26 ohms.
The chassis as far as I can tell has never been touched and looks like it came straight from the factory floor.
I would assume these resistors were put in at the factory to get the voltages within tolerance.
Any ideas?April 3, 2023 at 4:41 pm #24568
garykusterCVRS MemberHi Doug,
You touched on an issue that comes up fairly frequently (at least to me). Many times I’ve encountered similar scenarios where the schematic says one thing and the untouched chassis shows another. I believe they are mid model upgrades that weren’t always documented. I have seen 2 different versions of a chassis schematic in the past that were quite different from each other used on the same radio. I tend to stick with what I see on the chassis. Can happen if a tube is substituted and a lower voltage is required, but on a farm radio, I would doubt it. No matter what route you chose to go, I’m sure you’ll run into this issue again. CVRS MemberThanks Gary,
At times we tackle things that are more daunting than others. So far this radio has been a challenge since the day that I got it but I am not giving up, lol.April 4, 2023 at 7:56 am #24576
garykusterCVRS MemberH Doug, Those are the type of radios I put back on the shelf until I (hopefully) get a little smarter. I tend to stay away from farm radios as I find getting the low voltage tubes a bit of a challenge. Always keep some AA5’s around to fix as a confidence booster!
