I acquired this little Thorcraft in great condition at a local auction for $20. I haven’t owned or worked on any Thorcraft radios so I was interested in picking it up. It needed recapping and a cleaning and works very well. I couldn’t locate a schematic for it but it was a simple radio to work on. Nothing really special about it I suppose, but intriguing to me because it’s not a well known manufacturer.
“Thorcraft was [a Canadian company in Winnipeg] started by Hank Thorkellson in 1947. They manufactured radios under their own label and also for other companies. Some of the early models are reported to have little or no identifying information. The company went bankrupt in 1957 and later restarted. They finally closed in 1964.” (Information sourced at radiomuseum.org)
When I went to STI in 1973 one of the chassis that everyone in the class each got to work on was a Thorcraft tube radio. I wish I could remember more about it but it was a simple transformerless tube radio.
