    Hello
My name is Barry, I reside in Campbell River and have had a passion for antique radios for the past 40 years. Since I was 10 years old and could use a soldering iron I have enjoyed electronics. Through middle school in Duncan, I repaired my science teachers antique radios that he had aquired one way or another. When I moved out from my parents, several years passed without dabbling in my hobby (must have been girls). When I went back to gather my large collection of tubes, other parts and my test equipment, I was surprized to find that everything was gone, to the dump non the less. Oh my, I ended up starting all over but in solid state electronics. BLA BLA BLA….
Anyways now I’m 50 and have started to get back into Vintage Electronics. Currently I am working on a 1932 Canadian Victor Talking Talking machine chassis R-56. Although I have aquired the schematic for the radio, I can’t find ANY other information on the radio.
Can anyone provide any information as far as a rarity etc?
Looking forward to being a part of the club.
    Cheers,
    Barry

I believe that Doug Huston on the” antique radio forum” would have the information you are looking for.
I know it is similar to the re57., re32 and re45.

Hi Barry. Good to see another Islander join the group! I gather you are an acquaintance of Bill W-S. I missed seeing Bill when he was down to Nanaimo just before Christmas, but if you check out the last newsletter you’ll see he managed to connect with a couple of other guys here. Are early wooden radios your major interest? I don’t have any information on the R56, but I do have the items in Lloyd Swackhammer’s book on the company and how RCA bought them to gain access to the Canadian market if that is of interest to you.

Hi Barry – welcome to the VI Chapter. Hope we get a chance to meet in person, either in Campbell River or in Victoria. Your story of going home after some years to pick up the electronics stuff sounds exactly like my own, so am looking forward to hearing more (mine included a lost bushel basket of tubes and a set of Popular Electronics magazines!).
    Cheers,
    Gary
