Here I go again on my DeForest Crosley, Kent. This Radio has two different sizes of Octal Tube Sockets. Two of them are broken. If I can find them, I need two of the larger sockets. The rivet holes on these sockets are 1 7/8″ inches, on centre. Actual diameter of the hole in the chassis is 1 7/16″ inches

    Hello Sterling

Attached find a couple of pictures of the sockets , one shows a standarad size socket that I have mountd in the tube opening, with one screw so as I can continue working on the radio. This particular socket is of course not native to this set, but thr rivet holes are the same as the standard Octal Sockets used on all Rogers radios of this vintage, that I, myself have seen. The first pic shows the large problem socket, and a similar, but smaller socket as used in this radio. The size difference is noticable. Rivet holes are much further apart.
I know Dan in Calgary has restored many old these DeForest Crosley/ Rogers Radios. So Dan if your tuned in, have you ran into this problem?

    Hi,

I’ve got a couple that are 1.5 inches mounting hole to mounting hole.
If they will help let me know. I can send a picture later if required.
Right now I am busier than a “bayman with 2 wood stoves !”

They are so rare, I might want postage for them !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello John

Those sockets sound like the real thing. These sockets are so flimsy. I think if they have no cracks we might just have a deal. If its not too much trouble, send me a picture.

Will do, tomorrow. I have spent most of my evening trying to sort out info on my TV-7CU tube tester. Turns out it’s the same as the TV-7 original.

It’s now getting past my bedtime and I need my beauty sleep . ( too late for that , the wife says )

    Hey John
This is my second post for you today. The first post just totally disappeared from the site. So here goes again. The socket picture you posted will not work, it too is smaller than the ones I need, by about 3/8″ from mounting rivet to mounting rivet. I do however thank you for efforts to solve this problem of mine. These wafer sockets were and are very fragile. I may have to reinforce the original socket, or cover the original socket hole with a piece of metal. If I do that I can punch a new smaller hole to accept the socket which I have now installed with one screw. (see my orginal pics.) A great try John, but it will not work. But again, Thanks.

    Regards

    Ralph,
Just an observation but it looks like the radio was originally designed for the 4 or 5 pin tubes and part way thru production an Octal tube became available.

I have had a poke around the internet and the largest spacing that I can find is what I sent to you.

    Good luck

    Hello Sterling
I think you have found what I am looking for. Notice however, how much bigger it is compared to the two octal sockets to the left of the one you are measuring, in your pic. How many of those do you have. Two would be nice but one would get me out of a pinch. What brand and model is the chassis in the picture. Why do I think it is Rogers/Deforest Crosley??? Let me know how much you want for it. Thanks for your interest and help. Let me know and I will send my mailing address by Private Message.
