A cute little radio. I have seen a couple but never owned one. In looking at the schematic, R2 is associated with the grid bias on the IF tube and thus the AVC for the radio. It is in a circuit which normally draws no current, so its value is probably of little effect on the radio. In some radios there is actually no resistor at all in this sub-circuit of the radio.
