The visible area of the dial on my Baby Champ was in good condition. However, the lower portion of the violet paint was flaking badly. I scanned the dial, and inserted the paper copy over the original. This “repair” is not apparent while viewing the radio from the front panel and looks original. It’s not perfect, but it is an improvement over the original.
Converting the radio to a 50L6 is a thought. It’s certainly not an irreversible mod if one wished to return the radio to its original state.
