Hi Sterling;
You might have noticed that in one of my posts I mentioned that I stain the whole cabinet after I strip it .. I know that the instructions from,
ARF [how to recreate a 1930 finish] don’t do that , but I have found that the cabinets do come out lighter if I don’t stain after the stripping of the cabinet.
When you stain right after stripping you strip there is no going back in the color, it will stay that color because the stain soaks into the wood grain.
If you stain after you put a coat to shellac on, the stain is not going into the wood grain.
It is all a learning process.
